Prop47-CBT

Prop 47 Grant
Programs, Activities, and Interventions
CBT
Under Prop 47 we are implementing the evidence-based curricula and interventions Aggression Replacement Training, Why Try?, and CBT. These interventions are provided to our target population by existing PUSD staff members and the mental health providers contracted with Prop 47 grant funds.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapeutic approach that addresses dysfunctional emotions, maladaptive behaviors and cognitive processes and content through a number of goal-oriented, explicit systematic procedures. Most therapists working with patients dealing with anxiety and depression use a blend of cognitive and behavioral therapy. This technique acknowledges that there may be behaviors that cannot be controlled through rational thought. CBT is "problem focused" (undertaken for specific problems) and "action oriented" (therapist tries to assist the student in selecting specific strategies to help address those problems). Many CBT treatment programs for specific disorders have been evaluated for efficacy and the health-care trend of evidence-based treatment has favored CBT over other approaches such as psychodynamic treatments.
